Residents from across the borough have been raising the growing problem of rat infestations and yet last year, Eastleigh’s Lib Dem Cabinet said there was no requirement for a formal policy to be adopted. At the Budget meeting in February, Conservatives tabled an amendment to fund a project to look at the prevalence of rats within the borough, identifying hotspots and formulating a plan to get on top of the issue. Lib Dems voted against this.
Meanwhile, the Council’s pest control charges continue to rise; up by 26% for some of the services in the last 5 years. Conservatives will still press for more action on rats because residents continue to tell us it’s a real problem.
